The Race for Better Sales Results – Are You Training or Trying?

Training and trying. Two words that sound very similar. But are very different.

They are the topic of this blog post.

Imagine that you just decided to run a marathon. You’ve been thinking about it for some time and now you’ve made the decision to compete.

Now, imagine that the event is this coming weekend and you haven’t run farther than from your couch to your refrigerator in longer than you can remember. But you are determined, and so you enter and try your hardest to compete and finish.

Most likely you would end up quitting long before the finish line, feeling frustrated and defeated.

The better scenario would be to select an event that is scheduled far enough into the future to give you time to train. Because no matter how hard you try, and how badly you want it, you currently are not prepared to run a marathon.

There is a profound difference between trying to do something and training to do something.

Champion athletes don’t just try to win, they train to win. They prepare physically and mentally. The same is true in business and at our Agencies.

You don’t achieve greatness in business simply by trying. Greatness requires focused training.

It is crucial to create a disciplined training regime. Approach training as you would train to compete in athletics.

Don’t get me wrong, it is great to TRY new things.

But ultimately there are only TWO outcomes to everything you TRY. You either DID or you DIDN’T.

You see, TRIED is not a result, it’s an action. You took action by trying, but the result was you either DID or DIDN’T do something.

Agents and Team Members will say to me, “I TRIED, but it didn’t work.” Well, that doesn’t mean it will never work, it simply means you need to try again and if need be try again and if need be… try again.

By doing so, what you have transitioned to is TRAINING.

TRAINING is simply the act of trying and trying and trying again.

Our First 4 Weeks and Rock Star Team Member Training programs are built on this premise. We present a concept and then enlist tactics to practice the concepts repeatedly. It’s this method of training that develops understanding and gets results over time through repetitive practice. Through training.

It is no different than a professional athlete. You need a written, planned training schedule so you can guarantee your improvement day after day, week after week, and month after month.

So what camp do you sit in? The camp of sporadically and randomly TRYING?

Or are you consistently TRAINING to improve your everyday results?

Our Masterminds programs give Agents the daily tools they need to train for results. Check it out.
